Submissions are closed for now.
Red Jack plans to open its first public submission period in 2027. The first call will be limited in length and focused on Canadian writers and creators. Dates and complete guidelines will be posted here once the process is settled.
The kind of work Red Jack is looking for
Red Jack is interested in work that can be hard to put into a neat box, especially when its rough edges are part of what makes it work. That does not mean anything goes. There has to be something worth building on, and a reason it needs to become a book.
We also think about what the book itself can add, physically.
Current areas of interest include:
- Dark and speculative fiction
- Photography and other visually led books
- Comics and graphic storytelling
- Poetry
- Memoir and unusual nonfiction
These are directions, not gates. A photobook might also be a memoir. A comic might work like an essay. A project might move between writing, photography, drawing, or forms that are harder to name. If the work feels right for Red Jack, the category matters less.
Who the first call will be for
The first open call will focus on Canadian writers, photographers, artists, cartoonists, and other book creators. Both emerging and established creators will be welcome, as will collaborative projects.
This Canadian focus is a starting point for the first public call, not a permanent limit on the Red Jack list. The press may also develop projects through rights acquisitions, commissions, referrals, and direct conversations with creators in Canada and elsewhere. Future submission periods may take a different form.
The exact eligibility requirements have not yet been settled. Those details will be made clear before submissions open.
For now
Please do not send manuscripts, proposals, or project files while submissions are closed. Red Jack wants to have a proper system in place to give submitted work careful consideration and a clear response. Material sent before the announced submission period will not be reviewed or retained.
When the window opens, this page will explain what to send, how to send it, how long submissions will remain open, and what to expect afterward.

Publishers and agents offering Canadian or North American rights to books already published or represented in other markets should visit the Rights page. Rights inquiries are handled separately from open submissions.
